Children are made to learn through wonder. Novelty, awe, and the simple act of doing are what turn a fleeting lesson into a lifelong memory — a truth woven into the brain itself, which we explore in Made to Wonder. The deeper question for any school is what it actually does with that truth. At Awakening Christian Academy, this conviction is built into how we teach, expressed in three distinctives.
I. Make it interesting
The best information requires a great explanation. Our teachers will creatively engage each student in bringing the material alive in the classroom. Through stories, projects, and hands-on engagement, we will engage the senses to make sense of the world around them.
II. Show, don't tell
Students remember what they build, dramatize, and explain. Our teachers will engage the critical thinking of students as they engage with great ideas. There will be no boring explanations here, only engaging exploration.
III. Apply first principles
We teach the why beneath the what, so students aren't memorizing disconnected facts but reasoning from the ground up — in order to understand combustion, we will build an engine. This is the kind of understanding that transfers to problem solving for a lifetime.
